Mason Morningstar Family Lawyer Toronto Child Support Lawyer Toronto

i like people, and i like solving problems

I have practiced family law and child protection exclusively since being called to the Bar in 2018. I had the privilege of learning from wonderfully talented lawyers at top family law firms for 5 years before starting my own practice.

I limit the number of active files I take on so I can prioritize quality service and responsiveness when you most need support. I have a special interest in property and income issues, along with any and all family law/child protection issues affecting First Nations peoples and Bands. I have ample experience navigating parenting issues with vigor and patience where there are difficult personalities on the other side.

I am Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) from Mississaugi First Nation in Blind River, Ontario and prioritize representing First Nations peoples at affordable rates. I represent clients primarily in the GTA, and throughout other areas of Ontario in certain circumstances.

My Approach

I have a significant amount of courtroom experience, but I see litigation as a last and expensive resort. Where appropriate, I prefer entering into an alternative dispute resolution process - what we call “ADR”.

When children are involved, it’s necessary (albeit difficult at times) to remember that your life as a family doesn’t end at separation; you will still parent together afterwards. Decisions made now will affect that future co-parenting relationship. The best chance of ensuring a positive family relationship usually lies outside of a courtroom, and with sound advice along the way.

Fundamentally, my job is to provide you with honest risk assessment and practical solutions, while ensuring your interests are strongly protected. In doing so, I pay meticulous attention to detail while never losing sight of the bigger picture.

The way you tell your story makes a difference. Your judge (or mediator/arbitrator) will form their first impression of you based on written materials. Boiler plate drafting is not effective. As a result, strong and persuasive story-telling techniques are vital within the context of the legal system. I go to lengths to capture your voice effectively and present your case.

Some of my hobbies outside of work include playing pool (9 ball), playing guitar (metal and fingerstyle acoustic), and photography (mostly of my cat, Izzy). I’ve also travelled extensively - my most recent trip took me around Asia for 12 months while on a sabbatical from work. Nowadays I’m firmly rooted in Toronto, though I grew up in Northern Ontario.
